Good Will

Just thought Ive give the school some well deserved shine. Some students thought it would be a good idea to have a bake sale, and give the proceeds to an orphanage. Tues, Wed, and Thurs students (mostly my 10g) stayed outside in the front yard to sell baked goods, cookies, and other sweet chocolates and candies.
It was such a great idea, and good cause, that I just wanted to highlight their good deeds!
Bravo....

Soccer Game

You all (should) know that I am not a huge soccer fan. Ok to be completely honest I am not a soccer fan at all. The thought of kicking the ball around from one end of the field to another doesnt quite excite me that much. I have tried to watch it a few times, but the game is just so tedious that I get bored quickly from the lack of excitement NEVER occurs unless someone is scoring (which takes forever) or fighting. BUT I am however, a firm believer in team spirit.
Ive been to one of my city's soccer games before. But it was really cold, and we lost the game. I was really disappointed at the loss, but kinda amazed at how serious the fans took the whole thing. They were throwing snow onto the field, trying to hit the opposing team's players, AND the ref. They were shouting really horrible things at the players and gettin way too upset for it just to be a game.
Well anyway, I was invited to see the game they had yesterday. I was a bit skeptic I must admit. Some people in the town are rude to me, so I can only imagine how some of the fans would be, esp. since they are mostly older guys. Thelast time I went I met with 2 guys that I know, but this time I went with 2 girls, and I was a bit worried. But nothing happened. We actually sat next to one of the guys I was with the last time. I was waving Minyour's (the name of the team) flag and altho folks were lookin at me like I was an alien at frist, they seemed to be more focused on calling the Ref a 'pederas" (faggot) than me after a while.
We lost the game.
I managed to have a good time tho. After I went for some drinks, then went home.

Oh b4 I go, quick comment. This whole "Im badly hurt so I have to jerk my body around and lay on the ground hours after I was barely touched" bit is gettin old. And thats another thing I dislike about soccer. I dont know if this only happens in BG, but its annoying as fuck. Ive seen a few players (when there is nothing on tv and I give in to my better judgement and watch a soccer game for like 5 minutes) get BARELY touched, or kicked by accident. They fall to the floor, then start twistin and moving around like they just got stabbed or something. Im always thinkin in my head "is it really THAT serious" And to make matters worse, after the ref checks the guy out, a whole hospital runs over to smooth things over, then 2 small guys come with that lil portable bed thing and scoop the player up like he is dying. This happened during the course of the game. Someone got "injured" and they had to scoop him up. AS SOON AS he got off the field, homeboy hopped off the thing and kept it moving. FOOLISHNESS!
Just play the damn game!

Pizza Party...well kinda

I cant really say Im too sure that the kids here understand the word party . I did a "Christmas Party" with my 10g class and it was wack as hell. I attempted to bake a cake for them, and told them to bring other drinks and refreshments. And if you remember, a few people brought in juice boxes. After the secret santa exchange, we took pics and that was the end of the party. I was kinda bummed.
I told my kids that whoever's movie was the best (which we just decided to see who's script was the best), they would win a pizza party. So of course I had to deliver on what I said, and we had the pizza party on Wednesday. I honestly think the kids were really surprised that I came thru with the pizzas. They looked kinda scared at first, and I had to assure them it was ok to eat the damn pizza. I told them to bring drinks tho, and I thought they woudl chip in some change and get a big soda so everyone could share, or bring some other snacks, but NO. Again, jsut individual juice boxes. Then I wanted to play some games, you know, have fun at the party. But they kids started rubbin their stomachs and pretending like they just worked an 8 hour shift and were too tired to play. I had to settle on doing some word games with half the class, while the other half played cards. They suck!
I had to practically hold them to gunpoint to take this pic~ but they look pretty convincing!Thats my girl Eva. She is so damn adorable. She dresses nice, and she is probably one of the best lookin Bulgarians Ive ever seen! She's peppy, spunky, and I just wish she would take ENG a bit more seriously.
Thats me cuttin the small ass pizza. I ordered 3 LARGE pizzas thinkin they would be ATLEAST something close to the ones in the states. But to my amazement, the LARGE here was the equivalent to an American SMALL! I guess Americans fo have a problem with fast food. Fat asses....

A lil somethin funny....

I was reading this in a magazine. The pic kinda caught my eye, but reading what was attached was so hilarious I thought Id share.....
Every week I look forward to FHM.com's Friday email. A few Fridays back I whacked on my PC, opened my inbox and took great joy in looking through your pics of the Greece Blow-Job Competition at the Baywatch Bar in Zante. But then I saw the pics of the "blonde girl with the denim skirt." At this point I felt sick. That girl is my girlfriend. She'd been on holiday to Zante in August, but what was she doing with that man's penis in her mouth? I've since quizzed her about this, and she still tried to pretend that she had been faithful to me. I woudl like to thank FHM because althought I have a broken heart, you've managed to save me from a future heartache at the hands of the cheating bitch. I would like to take this opportunity to tell mankind that although the pics make it appear as if she knows what she's doing, she's crap at oral sex.

Whoa!!! Can you imagine, seeing your GF in a pic at a blow-job competition? Why in the hell do they have such competitions anyway? How do they judge a winner? So many questions.....

The Daily Foolishness

I cant really say today was one of my best. Im only halfway done with my classes and I kinda have an attitude already. I just had class with the 9g. Yesterday I had an awesome day with this half of the class. We had a pizza party (which Ill blog about lata) and it went semi ok. I gave them all assignments earlier this week having to do with technology, since thats what we are covering in the textbook. I decided the Cell Phone Scavenger Hunt activity worked pretty well with the 10g class, so I could recycle it and do it with the 9th class. And I really like this activity cuz it allows students to be creative and have some fun.
The first half of the 9g I had did pretty ok. On boy in a group of 3 hasnt shown up to school for the past few days. So the other 2 boys in the group decided they werent gonna do the assignment. When I asked why no one called him, they both replied no one had his number. But in fact, all the students info including home numbers are in the Dnevnik (the attendance book) and in fact Ive seen one of the guys in the group get someone;s number from the dnevnik. So I asked why they didnt bother to tell me he was absent (I didnt have class with them for 2 days) and ask if they could just do the project without him. And of course I got nothing but blank stares. I told them they were gettin a failing grade then, cuz obviously they didnt even try to do the work. They asked if they could do the project and give it to me by Tuesday, and I agreed. They generally seemed spooked by gettin that failing grade and decided to do something.
So I had the other half of the 9g after, and to my astonishment, NO ONE in the damn class had the assignment. No one. Not even the girls in the class who ALWAYS do their work, and get excellent marks in the class.
I kinda was enraged at that point. I asked why no one had the assignment and they said they honestly forgot to do, to which I replied, well Ima forget to give (yo ass-wish I could have said this part) you a good grade then. As a matter of fact, the whole class is gettin (got...truth be told, I was very excited when I wrote those marks for the ENTIRE half of the class) failing marks, cuz no one did the assignment. Damn shame......
It really does make me so disappointed that the students just dont want to do anything. They are just so content in their lil lives, playing computer games, and eating candy. Sitting in class spacing out, deciding on a REGULAR basis that they not gonna do any work. They are really starting to disgust me, and I frankly am not particularly interested in teaching this class next year. Actually, im gonna try to insist on it cuz Ill be damn if I teach these lil bastards for another year and they just dont listen or do any work at all. The 10g class is really tough and way harder than the stuff they do now (which is damn near nothing). They gonna have a rude awakenin if I teach that class next year, and I dont think its gonna turn out good for them at all.
Damn, Im kinda in a sour mood now.....and it looks like its gonna rain.

Oh but wait, in 10g most of the students have been absent becuz of a bake sale. 5 students showed up to class today (1 more than yesterday) and with that many students absent, whats the point of even teaching anything? I just sat in silence and wondered how different my life would be if I werent here. Sad, I know......

Go Vote, or when I see you I'll SLAP your face!

hahahaha just jokin (but not really!) My friend from school has entered some Sean John competition to be one of the new faces of the company. He is sooooooooo adorable and is model material all the way. Not only is he good looking, he has a great sense of humor, is VERY fashionable, and has such a warm heart. I've blog about Delmar before, cuz I consider him such a great friend.
Isn't he just gorgeous? Well anyway, here is the link to the sean john website: http://seanjohn.com/contest/ . Make sure you vote for my friend, not only cuz I told you too, but because he really is good looking and deserves it!

Come again, did you say 14?!?!

I had to get some medical stuff done on friday at the PC office. I got my female parts checked out and check-up done. While I was there, the doctor weighed me. And to my surprise and chagrin, I weighed in at 145. I thought that was a bit low, seeing as how I could sweat up and down that I was in the 150s area. I asked her if she knew how much I weighed when I first came to BG and she said she would check.
Uumm homegirl came back and told me that I weighed 159 (I wish I could caps that 159 for emphasis). So for all of the slow folks out there who cant keep up with simple math, 159-145 is 14 pounds. I dont feel any lighter, nor do I feel like I lost all that weight. But the proof is in the numbers, or the damn scale I should say!
Now Im sure some people think that I dont eat. But thats just not the truth. I EAT a lot. I have always labored under the motto, If you cook it, I will come! I never turn down a meal, and there are sometimes when I eat even if Im not hungry cuz I just cant resist the taste of certain things (esp. sweets). So I cant for the life of me imagine how I lost this much weight. But after I thought about it, Im pretty sure it has to do with 2 things: stress and not eating meat. (oh wait, when times of hard and Ive spent my money on clothes I tend to eat less cuz I have no food, but who cares about that.....)
Ive been really stressed lately about a number of things, and at one point I didnt eat much of anything at all. I was upset and sad and so that honestly did affect the way I was eating. But sometimes when I am upset I overeat also. Secondly, I dont really trust the meat here. I used to buy meat all the time, chicken, and pork chops. But they would spoil so quickly after I bought them that I would have to throw the meat away. And Ive been to the supermarket and the small corner store-ish places they have out here, and the meat kinda looks real suspect! So for these reasons I just stopeed buying meat altogether. When I visit people's houses (rarely) I eat meat, and if I go to a decent restaurant Ill get a meat dish. But for the most part, I make salads at home cuz they're quick and easy to make.
Who the hell knows how this weight thing works. When I got back from Japan I could fit into a size 2 and I looked kinda good, but also kinda anorexic cuz I had lost so much weight. But Im sure when I get back to the states next year Ill gain some weight back going crazy eating Burger King and fat juicy steaks!

Words of Encouragement

Hey Maxie
thanks for the pics! didnt we take some together?I just want you to know that I will stand by you whatever decision you make.
I just want you to make sound decisions. You have to keep in mind adversity builds character. I often think about what you said that I am the strongest person you know?? well I think that is because all the things I have been through that have made me this way.
I want you to be safe and have peace of mind. But I also want you to keep in mind that you made a commitmentif youdon't keep your word no one is going to keep there word with you. Learn to find solutions to problems not escape from problems.
know that I am here for you and stand by you like a tree and dare anybody to try and move me.Make your life extraordinary
Ferg
And this is one of the reasons that I think that Im gonna try to stay and work it out....

You should Get like ME!

Id just like to say before this post begins, that my former saying was "I got to blog about this" Its what people could always hear me say after everything stupid or funny that happened. I love to blog, and I love sharing my experiences here with the people on the other side of the world. BUT my new saying, which Im sure I will run into the ground is "...then maybe that/you could be in a magazine too" and Ill explain this in a second.....
But before I do, Id just like to share with you all that I was in a magazine! YEah bitches Im im my way to the top! This lady whom I met a while back asked if she could interview me. I didnt know how to take it, but I agreed and before long she asked if I could meet with her to talk. I went eagerly and was very surprised at the questions she asked me. She was very sweet tho and I was excited to see how the piece would come out. Well low and behold she brought the magazine to my school one day and I was so damn happy to read the article. I was surprised at how much I actually understood and when I got someone to translate the rest, I was VERY HAPPY and thought the piece was VERY WELL written. It is entitled "One New Yorker in Pernik" Check the pic.....

There is a pic of me, of Time Square, my fam (which most people thought we looked so alike, they couldnt even tell who my mom was, or who was older out of my sisters and I), and a pic of my students and I at Christmas. The interview talked a lot about how I feel here in Pernik and she quoted me as sayin I feel like a fish in a vacuum (actually I said fish bowl). Pernik is so small is there is nothin to do here and I am soooooooo bored. She also talked about my fam in NY, what I graduated school with, how much I liek my colleagues at work, and my thoughts on school activities not being so interesting for the students. She also talked about how some people have been rude to me and said bad things to me and threw something at me.

So back to my saying....Tiff kept tryna play me when she was here. One time she said she was smarter than me, and I answered with, yeah right, if you were so much smarter than me then maybe you would be in a magazine too! LOL I tell you boy, thats my new shit for 2009.

*and THAT's why you should get like me!*

The good folks

So Ill just take a sec to recognize the Bulgarians who are just so wonderful. They joke with me, they invite me places, and they are just so nice and caring.
Vanya-works in my school. She is so adorable. She is an older woman and I go and talk to her often about all sorts of things. During the spring break, I came to the school to see her. She walked to the stored to help me buy the yellow ribbon for my apt, and bought me some ice-cream cuz it was nice that day. I've been over to her house once and she made a ovely dinner for me. She is the epitome of a loving grandma I would say, and she makes me feel extra welcome. She squeezes or smacks by booty from time to time and it would be awkward if it were anyone else, but she is extra cool.
Im not gonna go person by person, but I would just like to put in the atmosphere that there are really NICE and DECENT people who live in Pernik and they treat me like a very dear friend or a family member.

Happy Easter....(A week and some change late)

So Happy Easter folks. And I know all of you are thinkin what the hell am I on, cuz Waster was a week and some change ago. But Since the Bulgarians go by the Orthodox Catholic calendar, Waster is a week after we celebrate it in the States. And one of the things that I actually like about BG is that it is still so rich in culture and tradition. On Easter EVERYONE young and old paints eggs. But eggs are only painted on Thursdays or Staurdays (damned if I know why). The first egg painted MUST be red, symbolic of Christ's blood. A really nice bread called Kozunak (which I am not particularly keen on) is made and lamb is eaten on Sunday. Also, when the clock strikes 12 AM on saturday, most Bulgarians go to church, light candles, and walk around the church 3 times. They also walk down the street holding the candles too. Its kinda cool.
I dont know what anyone else does for Easter, but when I was younger I went to church and dressed up all pretty and died egss. But as I got older, I stopped dying eggs, and going to Easter Egg hunts, and basically stopped going to church. I cant remember my mom cooking anything special for Easter, but I remember there being a nice dinner.
I was invited on Saturday over to my program director's house for lunch. I brought a nice bottle of wine, and we ate salad, and some other Bulgarian food including lamb. After, her son, daughter and I went for a bike ride. We left about 2 and I didnt get home til about 7:45 NO LIE. We biked in the rain to a nearby (well not THAT nearby) town and met up with a friend of their's. She was nice. We stopped at her house for a bit then biked a lil bit further before we decided we were all dead tired and should turn around. It was a great workout. Honestly I really had to check myself a few times. I kept gettin caught up in that city girl mentality.
First off, to go biking I wore my Airmax sneakers. I thought we were gonna bike ride around the town, you know along the street or in the park. But we were on the grass and had to go through dirt and stuff. Then the rain didnt help matters at all. We came to this one place where the grown my split, like a hurricane ran through it and created a rift. To get from one side to the other we had to get off the bikes and walk over a whole bunch of dirt and mud. You know I almost caught a heart attack. I didnt want my kicks to get messed up, and I damn sure didnt want to slip and fall and get all dirty. I made it over tho! *whew, wipes hand across forehead*
Before we got to the friends house we had to bike almost 10 Kilometers (dont know the conversion, but look it up if your so interested) and I thought I would die. IT was fun goin down the hills and feeling the wind in my face and feeling carefree. But then after a while I just got tired and going up the hills was no walk in the park. But I made it!
Overall we stopped often enough for me to catch my breath and get my energy back to keep on biking. I would do it again, altho I was worried what the daughter and son thought of me after hearing me complain about the bugs, rain, gettin dirty, being tired, near death, etc.

Paris and Milan Pics

The church where the Last Supper is painted.
One of the main shoppin areas in the center of Milan

We stopped at McDonalds and got these lil things. Its fried spinach, and altho they looked nasty in the pic, them joints were sooooooooooo good!

Really nice church around the shopping area

Parisian burger

A busy street in Paris
We got our drink on in Paris

The train station in Paris was probably bigger than Grand Central Station

Champs de Le blah blah blah (I dont know how to spell it)

Eiffel Tower

Cant forget about the clothes....

Uumm yeah, I know how ridiculous I am. I took this pic to show jsut how RIDICULOUS I am. My closet is so damn full from clothes that I have brought with me and bought while I was here. Im lovin this lil wardrobe too. Its wooden and looks so old school. Below the open area with the doors is 2 drawers full of undies, socks, and pajamas, and shirts, and more sweaters. Life is Excellent!
I could clothe a small village with all this stuff. And Im just thinkin of all the stuff I left behind in NY.*just a thought tho*

My APT

I am a firm believer that your environment should make you feel comfy. Especially since I am in BG. It is of the utmost importance that when I come home from a hard day of work, that Im able to relax. I dont want to look at no chippin paint on my walls, or have to feel disgusting lookin at how horrible the ceiling looks.

And it doesnt hurt that Im up on the fashion scene, and just had to do something spectacular with my apt. As it was, it looked really bad. But now, I have a nice lil couch for folks to sit on (altho I havent had not one damn visitor other than my fam or PC volunteers), I have a nice sized TV, and the walls are painted a cute white and light blue color. I was tryin to figure what to accessorize my walls with, and I decided on yellow. My couch is actually a deep mustard color (so Im on point without even trying, cuz I got the couch before I even thought of the yellow thing) and I got some cute blue and yellow candles to place around the room. So my newest acquisition has been these lovely white and blue curtains, which I have been meaning to get for the longest time. The curtains I had before were so damn dirty and nasty that I took them down and the window has just been bare.

So after I got the curtains, I didnt really like how they just draped over the window like that and decided to pull them back. So I got those lil sticky white things and stuck them on the wall and got this BEAUTIFUL yellow ribbon to tie the curtains up tie them back the way you see in the pic. Cuz thats how I get down!

I love SHOES!

So those of you who know me, know damn well that my world revoles around looking very feminine, and wearing sexy high-heeled shoes and tight dresses (lol). Since I have come to BG, that has kinda been put on hold. While my button-up and work game is on point, I feel my shoe game is lacking considerably. I could only bring 2 suitcases with me initially, and I opted to bring business atire for work and other useless BS, instead of bringing shoes. What a MISTAKE that was. I quickly realized that I was at a loss. I found some clubs to go to, but had nothing to wear cuz I didnt bring the proper attire. I thought in the beginning that I wasnt gonna really be clubbin like that while I was here. And while I dont be in the clubs too often, I still go from time to time to have fun and forget about the day to day foolishness that ensues while I am at work or in town. with that being said, I was so frickin happy when I was blessed to receive a suitcase full of shoes and clothes sent from my fam back home (more specifically my older sis cuz she packed the bag). Now I am in sheer bliss and in shoes heaven. Not only did I get 7 pairs of pumps, I also got the Airmax that Poppa bought me before I left fro BG, about 8 pairs of jeans, shirts, and 2 dresses. *let the church say AMEN*
And just so you understand how exclusive I am with the shoe game, I took a pick.....

7 pairs of pumps, sneakers, 2 pairs of shoe boots, 1 pair of sneakers, and I cant forget the 8 pairs of flats I brought with me including my BELOVED coach flats.

I love shoes!

Thanks Poppa

So of course I couldnt let another day go by without shouting out my baby, who sent me a lovely care package full of goodies. I took a pic of some of the stuff, but the bag was full of lots of things that I wanted, and some that surprised me. Poppa has been a great source of support, and I just wanted to commend him on hangin in there and stickin with me throughout this entire year. I know its not easy, and not many people would do it, so you get a special KUDOS and a *kiss*
We not gonna even talk about who's care package was better between Poppa and Jojo's or who loves me more. As long as I am at the center of both worlds Im happy! hahahahaha
And you two dont have to fight over me, there is enough Lady Sha Sha *strikes a pose* to go around!
Look at my mini-me....Super!
After the Monastary, we stopped at a small place for lunch. Vlasko order kiselo mlako (sour milk) and had the fam taste it. Of course they werent really feelin it, and thats obvious from Tiff's face!

All of us at the Monastary.

Nice pic of the Monastary.

So one night I took them out to this lil place that I used to frequent very often called the Art Salon. Its a lil restaurant where a lot of older folks go to drink, talk shit, laugh, joke, and dance. Well these 2 were there and they were really nice to the fam. The guy kept tryna get my mom to let Tiff drink some wine with us.
*side note* Why do I look fat in this pic....I hope its just the pic and that I didnt really look like that when I wore this....oh and FYI, you know I stay down with the Red....

The Maxwell's come to town!

Tiff in at the Rila Monastary in front of a painted mural on the outside wall.

My town is apparently split into 2 sides, and separated by a highway. The highway has a bridge for people to walk over to get to either side, and of course I live on the other side ot the bridge! So I can either walk safely across the bridge, or I can run across the highway like Frogger....Oh, and then after the highway there are train tracks....So I literally live on the other side of the tracks! hahahaha

Me and my mini-me at the aiport. And Tiff was lookin mightly BRIGHT-LIGHT with that hoody on and some hot-pink shades.

Tiff and mom at the airport

Im so lonely....

So my fam has long gone and Im back to my solo status. It was fun while it lasted, and I def have some great memories of when they were here. We went to a few cool places while they were here, they got some shoppin done, and most importantly we got to kick it with each other. Tiff has gotten so big and she swear she is grown! I had to grab her up one good time so she knew who the boss was. One night she didnt want to eat some carrots that were in this soup I made. After goin back and forth for a while, she finally ate them, but I had to hem her up and get in her face cuz she was mighty slick with her mouth. Other than that, she was an angel. We had some good laughs and I was so glad to see her. My mom was cool too. She was actin funny style on some occasions, but for the most part she was aight. We had a nice lil mother-daughter talk that really surprised me and shed light on some things that I had no idea of.
I brought the fam to my school and they had such a good time. I introduced them to my classes and the were a bit shy at first, but got into everything after. I had them say a few words about themselves, then opened the floor for questions. I figured there wasnt gonna be any, so I had an activity waiting in the mists. The students participated and we all had some laughs. They spoke very well and my fam was very impressed. Some of the students performed the Horo and my sis showed my classed how to do the "stanky leg" (some hood dance popular in NY now). All in all, it was a fun day at school and I think everyone benefited from it!

The aftermath

Its been a few days since my door has been defaced, and I suppose I have had a lot of time to think about the whole thing in its entirety. Friday I spoke with someone from PC and I spoke to another Black female vol here, along with a brief convo with my program director. All this talkin didnt necessarily make me feel any better, but it did let me know that I had a lot of support and a lot of people were worried about me. Friday I went back home with my program director cuz she lives in my town and she saw my door. She spoke with my neighbor and asked if she wouldnt mind keeping an eye out for me. I looked at the door and all the talkin in the hallway with my neighbor just made me break down and cry. I was really upset.
And let me just explain briefly why I am upset. i have spoken to a lot of Bulgarian people, in an attempt to explain what happened and why I feel so sad. And most of their responses were along the lines of "Oh shani, dont be mad about that. There are a lot of stupid people in BG" or "oh shani, im sure those were just some stupid kids, dont let that bother you" So Id just like to let those of you out there for the record know why this type of thing gets me so upset.
1.Ill start by saying that there is no way you could really understand or fathom what I am feeling if you have never gone through this. The Bulgarians are the majority in this country, and I am sure have never heard anything remotely racist from another BG. If anything the Bulgarians are the ones who dislike/mistreat/talk bad about Roma/Turkish/other people who are not like them simply for that fact. They are not always the caring/understanding people they would have others believe. They ae the ones who dish out racial slurs and carry prejudices from what I have observed.
2. I am a grown ass woman. I dont need anyone to tell me how to feel. If my natural reaction is to be upset and cry because of something that happened to ME, then so be it. Thats how I do and thats how I am. Im not gonna all of a sudden jump up with happiness cuz someone wrote a racial slur on my damn door, that I have to see everyday. So please do not try to lessen my feelings or my pain by saying shani dont get upset!. I already am upset.
3. Altho Black people use the word when referring to each other to mean homey, my peeps, my buddy etc. the history of the word is rooted in something completely different. I am against using the word altogether, but lets be honest, when most non Black people use the word, they usually use it to be malicious. You cant tell me that someone scratched this word on my door to mean 'welcome to the neighborhood', or even 'we heart you.' They were being malicious. And the fact that someone would go through the trouble to physically do all that boggles my mind and makes me upset even more. That it has gone beyond simple rude stares or remarks and turned into action. That is what upsets me, and that is what needs to be understood. So dont think that this is more than just some asshole who is ignorant. This person got into my building and wrote a disgusting word on my damn door.

With all that being said, time to think has done me good. I kepp thinking that maybe I shoudl pack up and go home where everything makes sense. Where in my little world called Harlem, everyone looks the same and I am not privvy to these senseless acts. Or where I can easily showboat down Times Square or somewhere in the Village and not have to worry about lookin over my shoulder or if someone has a problem with me cuz Im Black. Cuz frankly I could give 2 shits about their opinions. Whereas here, its all I think about. I am the ONLY Black person that lives here or has EVER lived in this town. And I am a woman. Anything could happen to me at anytime.
But then what message would I be sending if I left? If I were a quitter? That they are right? that they can bully me around? What I really need to do is put on my NY swag and get it poppin! Altho I am still gonna talk to my program director about my options, if worst comes to worst and I have no choice but to stay here til next year, then so be. BUT, Ill just do my thing. Avoid the center of town like I been doing cuz I hate walkin over there. But wherever I do go, keep my head up high cuz even tho I am a Black female in thise town, Im the shit!
Is just so fucked up that I have to deal with this here. Cant I just teach the kids and do my job? Why does being Black have to be an issue?

Niggas

As if I havent endured enought hateful and spiteful comments, folks have brought "brining it to your doorstep" to a whole nother level. I went to work Thursday mornin kinda tired. Tiff has a new phone with this thing called Brain Genius on it and I have glued to the damn thing since she got here. I stayed up late playing it and bickin (kickin it...lol can I say that?!?!) with the fam, so naturally I was tired when I woke up. I was movin real slow, but managed to make it out the house about 7 AM. Class was ok, but I was concentratin on comin back home to see what the fam wanted to do for the rest of the day. The weather was real nice and they still needed to get some more souvenirs.
I roll up to my door, and wouldnt you know what was there?!?! The word 'NIGGAS' was SCRATCHED into my door! Yes, its true. Please pick your mouth up off the floor. I swear I couldnt even make this shit up! I was so flabergasted, then upset, no OUTRAGED. I was however surprise at how cool and collected I was. I walked into the apt and very calmly said hello then walked into the kitchen and tried to call the PC office. No answer. Then I call my program manager's celly. She picks up and I calmly explain to ehr what I witness. She seemed really surprised and disgusted herself. We talked for a bit. She asked me questions and then suggested that I call my school and see if someone could come and take a look at the door and stay in my apt with me.
I wont bore you with any more details, but it wll suffice to say that I was not happy. I had to go write a police report, take pics of the door, then the fam and I packed up our stuff and stayed with a PC staff oerson in Sofia for the night. I havent been home yet but I am DREADING haveing to look at what the door says.
and if anyone lodt count, this will be the THIRD, yes 3rd incident report that I have filled out with PC. The first being when some guyin my building thought it appropriate to grab my face and begin kissing me while we rode the elevator to the bottom floor. I told my colleagues at school at happened and I almost got the impression that they really didnt see the harm in what happened, and that I shoud almost be flattered that it happened! 2nd was when I almost had a break down cuz some assholes said really rude things to me and kids threw something at me. Then there was the verbal assault that my fam had to witness. But this here, t akes the cake.
I keep thinkin of how this person could have gotten into my building. How they could have done this undetected. What if I opened the door while they were doin it? what if I happen to come home late or alone and there is someone waiting for me? The police can patrol all they want, but unless they are gonna stake out and watch me 24/7 no one can ensure that something else like this or on an even worse scale wont happen. And for this reason, I am thinkin of returnin home folks.
the kids at my school are cool and all, but lets be real. You all have read enough posts about how lazy they are. A lot of them are cool with doin the minimum and just barely gettin by. And altho I can think of a few who speak really good, they ultimately got that way cuz they worked their asses off and studied. There are several excellent speaking English teachers at my school, and I doubt that the students who really want to elarn ENG will suffer because I left early. And I really dont feel like I am doing anything important here. Altho I wouldnt mind actually fulfilling my committment to serve for 2 years, there really is nothin here to keep me. I dont feel comfy walkin down that streets, I ahte meeting new people unless I am introduced to them by someone I know and I havent been able to get past that fact that I am the only black person here. And for this reason I feel like I havent put my all into doin programs outside of the school (which is suggested by PC to help improve not only the school but also the community). And I have had great idea abotu doin projects with my students and for the school, but the other teachers have other things goin on or they are just to lazy to help me and I cant do everything by myself.
And with all these excuses, the only thing that really matters is the fact that I dont want to ever disappoint my mom. I would have been left long time ago, but she has been encouraging me to stick it out and bear it. But as tough as I am, I was really scared when I saw what was written on my door, and I cant keep convincing myself that I im not. I dont want her to be upset with me either and so I have been tryin my best to hang in there as she would say, but its really hard. I have a meetin with my program director tues and until then I have a lot to think about.
This shit is beyond foolishness.....I cant even think of a good catch phrase or word to describe it. And im not even gonna go in to how shitty I feel right now......

"I dont want to get human trafficked"

So in the "most retarded thing ive ever heard" news of the day, I was talkin to my sister b4 she got on the plane. I called them to make sure everything was kosher, and asked my sis if she was scared to get on the plane. She said yeah and I thougth it was becuz she didnt like flying. I asked why anyway, and she says "I dont want to get human trafficked" Poppa was on 3-way and started laughing but I didnt think it was funny at all. I asked why the hell would she say that, and she said cuz she saw a movie where some people were trafficked. I said how the hell you gonna get human trafficked from the plane???

Idiot moment.....

Mozambique

Well my mom and sis are FINALLY here. They made it and I was all types of excited! I picked them up from the airport on Friday. My friend volunteered to pick them up with his friends car, so I was on it. I was so excited to see them. When they got here, all I saw was Tiff's light bright sweater and HOT PINK shades, and brown uggs. She looked real cute, but like a city girl. My mom was chill with some Nike boings and jeans. We rode back to my town, and kicked it in the house for a bit. I didnt have any food in the crib, so we went to the supermarket (Kauflands). Kauflands is like a Pathmark. They have everything: food, furniture, toys, alcohol, appliances, houseware items, EVERYTHING. We get to the checkout and we got so much stuff that I needed a big grocery bag and you have to pay like 30 cents for the bag. So Tiff asks if I had to pay for it and I said yes. As the lady is scanning the stuff, my mom and I are putting them in the bag. So we get outside and we talkin bout Kauflands and Tiff says thats stupid that you have to pay for the bag. I said it was really cheap tho and she rebuttles with "well if you have to pay for the bag, atleast they could pack it for you" She is such a lazy American.....lol They didnt bring a lot of stuff, but Poppa sent me some goodies with them. Cookies, kool-aid, crackers, sunflower seeds. I was in sheer bliss! I made a nice salad and bought a chicken and we had that for dinner. My mom was all on the salad like it was the best thing since sliced bread. I almost thought I saw her licking the damn plate she kept sayin how good it was. It had mushrooms, tomoatoes, cheese, and eggs. It was bangin tho.....

I had a diversity training to go to for the PC sat so I had to get up early and go to Sofia. They were really jet-lagged and slept from like 8 at night fri til like 3 in the afternoon sat. I got back home as soon as the training was over and was there about 6:20. I told them to get ready so we could go out for dinner. We went to this really cute pizza place in town. But first my mom wanted to call her BF to let him know they got here ok. So we walkin down the street, you know regularly. So all of a sudden some idiots who are across the street start shouting MOZAMBIQUE at us. They were very loud and were sitting and standoin outside on the corner at this small cafe place, drinking. Now I dont think I look african, but maybe Im wrong. So I yell at them, I am from America, and they start yellin louder and one guy starts making obscene getures. He started humpin the air and doin some other stupid shit. Then I heard some fucks and other stuff that I thought was complelely rude and unnecessary. I was downright embarrassed that my mom and sis had to hear this also. My mom was actin like a true New Yorker and threw up her middle finger in their direction. I got so damn upset that I didnt want to eat anything when we got to the restaurant.
And this is the bullshit that gets me angry. I warned them earlier that a lot of people were gonna stare at them, but rude remarks and obscene gestures? I was hopin nothin like that happened and I was skeptical about going to the center of the town where we were just for this reason. Why should I not have the freedom to walk where I please without fear that someone is gonna say something stupid to me? Its makin me mad just thinkin bout it now....
We were on our way back home and I didnt want to pass those assholes again. We just so happened to run into some people I knew and we decided to get a quick drink at this one place. We got some wine and I did pretty well translating between them and my mom . She kept sayin how proud of me she was and how she was happy to be here in BG. she took pics and after a while she looked kinda out of it so we left. Im sure it was due to the fact she kept suckin down glasses of wine like it was water. On the way home she started throwin up and I was so embarrasses when we got out the car and there was a lil bit of throwup residue on the cab seat. eeeewwwww
She went to bed when we got in the house, but then was feelin sick so she kept gettin up.
Today was pretty cool. We all slept late and made out calls to the states in the afternoon. We hit up the supermarket again, and went to the internet place after.
Mozambique.....Fuckin foolishness!

Just a side thought....

If one more damn person shouts Obama at me and does that fist pump I might consider hurtin myself. I know they think its cool to see a black person, and I know they want to be down with me/us. But it really gets tiring when people ask where I am from, and when I say NY, they go ape on me. I was in a thrift shop in Milan and tried on this cute jacket. The shop attendant, who was rude as hell said when we first came in, "oh you must be British" I dont know how she thought that, but I said no, we are from the states, NY. She immediately starts shouting Obama, but it sounded like she was tryna be condescending. Then when I asked how much the jacket cost, she said 120, and I said "Euros?!" And so she goes on this tirade, "yeah, what you think" And I wanted to slap her, but I just walked out the store.
We had lunch one day at some cute lil place, and the owner comes to the table and asks where we are from. We saw NY and he says Obama. So we play along and start saying it too. Then Ferg asks him about Bush, and homeboy takes his thumb and moves it from one side of his neck to the other (like he was cutting his own throat) then spits on the ground. I was like damn! I didnt know so many people were up on the political scene like that. But it seemed that even if most people didnt speak ENG (which was like most of the Italian population in Milan) they knew the name Obama. AND the pres was in London at the time. I heard the Bulgarians invited him to come over here and holla. Im holdin my breathe for that one!
I noticed too in Milan and Paris that there werent a lot of fat people. Altho there were a gazillion McDonalds everywhere, and on one street there were 2, I just didnt see many fat people, which surprised me. The Parisian men looked real good too. But they all looked the same. Blazer, shirt, EXTRA tight pants and leather shoes. There was no difference between any of them. There were also a whole bunch of different people in Paris which I liked. There were a gazillion Africans, asians, and other americans. I didnt feel like people were staring at me cuz I was black or cuz I stood out in the crowd (they were obviously starin cuz on the shit...hahaha). In Milan people could tell we were different and I think they looked at us for that reason. I looked fresh to death everyday, and Im cute. In the trains we spoke in ENG and a lot of people were lookin at us kinda weird. But there were a whole bunch of africans and asians there too, so I didnt feel like it was a Black thing, as much as it was a tourist thing.
Oh, and in Milan, customer service was HORRIBLE. We would go in a store and nobody would say anything to us. We would walk to the counter, and folks wouldnt even address us unless we said something. And I guess thats the difference between capitalist places. Cuz in the states, you go anywhere and they READY to take your money. They try to be helpful even if its fake cuz they want them dollars. But in Milan, they could give 2 shits. We went to a coffee place to get something to drink. Folks were just standin around eating croissants and the lady behind the counter saw us come in and didnt say word to us. We didnt know where the line started or ended, and gave up after a few minutes.
But it wasnt BG, so by default it was awesome....hahahaha

Memorable Quotes

Quick Recap: Are you all familiar with the term "Muffin top"? Well its when a girl wears really tight pants, and her back fat hangs over her pants line, lookin like the top of a muffin.

Ok, so while we were in Italy, Ferg asked why all the Italian chicks looks so fat, but had mad tight jeans on. I said I dont know, but the girls in BG do that all the time, and they all look like Muffin Tops. Of course she was clueless as to what this meant, so I explained it to her. Fast forward to a day later when I put on a pair of jeans that were in the suitcase big sis sent me. They were kinda tight, as I have gained a few pounds, and Ferg jokingly says, "You better be carfeul, you turnin into a MUFFIN!" She starts laughing hysterically, but I didnt get it. Then I caught on to the fact that she was tryna say I looked like a muffin top, but she fucked that joke up! Parents, they just dont understand......Moving along

I said to Ferg that when I got back to the states, I was thinkin of living somewhere like Philly or outside the city. She tunred her face up. so I said well I dont have to live in Philly, but maybe somewhere like Queens or BK. She goes, "Queens is for suckers, and all the losers live in BK."

Damn, maybe Manhattan IS the pinnacle of the world.....

Eiffel Tower

More pics to come.....But in the mean time, you can bask in the glory and greatness that is Lady Sha Sha!

Autographs upon request!

I love my Jojo

Well well well, look at what my lil Jojo sent me! You can only imagine my surprise when I got this package today. I knew she sent me something, but all this, this is amazing! I had to lug this big ole box all the way from the post office to my apt, but I sure was glad I did it. In the pic: Doritoes, Goldfish, M&M peanut butter, OREO's, TRIX cereal, GRAPE JELLY, and Kool-Aid (I see someone has been reading my blog and checkin my wish-list!). But wait, it gets better, what I didnt take a pic of was a jar of peanut butter, another box of cereal, a box of tea, and tomato sauce. Girl, you know you my homey for real!!! That package was greatly appreciated, and know that if the shoe was on the other foot, I would have sent you a great care package as well. And THIS is why, Jojo is definately THE QUEEN! Poppa, now all you have to worry about is my laptop, and/or some BLING! hahahahaha

Im so spoiled......*kisses*

Italy

Itlay was pretty ok. Paris reminded me so much of NY. The streets were all crowded with cafes and people walkin quickly. Most people had a lil fashion edge to them, and it really had a nice BIG city feel to me. But Italy was just ok. The streets were really clean, and the buildings looks so beautiful. They were made out of nice marble, and looked very old. They had a Victorian or 18th Cent feel to them. A lot of the buildings had balconies with pretty flowers growing around them, and healthy green vines. I barely saw garbage on the street. The people all looked so quaint with their LV bags. We rode the train mostly everywhere, and the people looked quite ordinary. I guess you could say it had a city feel to it also, but the areas we were in also felt very touristy.
After a quick power nap when we finally go to the hotel, we went out to shop. I was so excited to get so many new things from back home that I took a shower and put on my new kicks and jeans. My sis sent me the sneaks that poppa bought me just b4 I left, some fresh arimax 95s. It was rainin the first day we arrived, so we didnt get much done. I went to the Guess store and was so excited cuz Ferg had a Guess gift card. But OF COURSE, they didnt have any pumps in my size (damn europeans). I was sorely disappointed. We checked out some other shops, but I didnt get anything. I was lookin for some kicks for Poppa, but I didnt see anything good. I snapped a few pics, then we bounced.
Back to the hotel. We stopped at the bar and met this nice couple. We got to talkin and laughin, and drinkin. They said we should go see the Last Supper, painted by Da Vinci. So the next day we put that on the agenda. But when we got to the church after this awesome lunch, they told us the tours were all booked and we couldnt see it. It was better to come in the morn so we planned to come back at 8 AM the next day. From there we walked around and saw some castle that was in walkin distance, an arena, and some other old buildings. The weather was really nice, so we walked through the park and ate ice cream. It was so calm and quite. Later we went to some area where a lot of the buildings were designed by Da Vinci. It was in a really nice area that had shops, and restaurants all lined down almost every street we went down. There were also those small narrow strips of water sandwiched between walkways, like you see in those movies when people are in Venice in gondolas. We went to this one place for dinner and I got a Vanil Cosmo. It was a cosmo with vanilla vidka, and that joint was f*ckin AMAZING. Best drink I ever had!
Back to the hotel where we watched Quantum of Solace b4 bed. It was HORRIBLE!
We got up the next morn to see the Last Supper. We got there extra early and it was amazing. Its painted on a wall which surprised me cuz I always thought it was a painting. I wish I got a pic, but of course the fake rent-a-cop security guards kept screamin "No pictures" I tried to sneak one but they wasnt havin it! After that we met up with a friend of Fergs for lunch then went shopping. I was really upset cuz we hadnt seen a damn Zara or H&M by this time. I was lookin for a cute black bomber and wouldnt have been content with my LIFE had I not gotten one. But as luck would have it, we went to this one place and I got my damn bomber, a dress (thank goodness) and a cute shirt.
I almost feel bad cuz I didnt get anyone any souvenirs. There was really no place that I saw that had any of those cheap magnets, or lil shot glasses. I was hopin to stock up on that type of stuff at the airport, but all they had was Gucci this, and LV that. The trip went by pretty quickly, but I had a great time, hangin with Ferg and not bein around my students.

Miscellaneous Pics

So there are a few pics that didnt really make the slideshow, cuz I wanted to caption them:

We peeped some guy pissing in the bushes. Ferg told me to snap the pic, and it was weird, cuz when I zoomed in, I could see his lil weewee. I kept wondering, with all the restrooms located just a few feet away, why in the world would he go behind the bushes. Laziness!!!

Big Pimpin right there. When we checked into the hotel, this message was on the TV!
Right behind the Eiffel Tower, there is a bathroom that we stopped into. This was just outside the bathroom, and I thought it was funny!
Yeah thats right,Parisians are always swagga jackin us!
Saw this outside of a school.....
